Baseball team still in the works: organizers

The Fort McMurray Professional Baseball Group is committed to bringing quality baseball entertainment and building a franchise for the community, despite the announcement from the Edmonton Capitals Baseball Club earlier today. Over the last few weeks we have received great feedback from the community, which is very encouraging and shows the level of support in Fort McMurray.

Our plan is still community, baseball, hot dogs, and cold pops on a summer day. Our goals have not changed in any way. We believe in the North American League and that it can be the right alignment for us with enough commitment from other Western Canada teams.

Kevin Outcalt, Commissioner of the NAL issued this statement, “We are disappointed that Edmonton is not able to play this year. The league has granted their request to take a year off, and we look forward to their return in 2013”.

Right now, the Fort McMurray Professional Baseball Group is awaiting the final stadium design and construction schedules to be announced.  Once this is known, we will be in a position to start planning the first pitch of professional baseball in Fort McMurray.
